Looking for more ways to help out? Here are the various committees and their chair people. Also included is a brief description of what the particular committee does. Please contact them or the Center if you wish to help out.

Adult Education
TBE

Arranging for speakers to conduct adult participation in various topics. Not necessarily religious or jewish.

Bulletin/Centerments

The editor of the bulletin - its title is "Centerments"- collects (and edits for grammar, spelling and flow of language) information from committee chairmen which they need to include in the Centerments. The President and Education Director have a regular column. The sisterhood and men's club usually contribute also. She also includes items from other organizations which may be of interest to our members.

The editor writes a column of congratulations, get well notices, and miscellaneous items of personal interest to members. Also included are yahrzeit notices and a list of contributions to the Center. She may add pictures and other clips to liven up the issue. She also brings the completed issue to be reproduced, prepares it for mailing with staples, labels and stamps. Jennie often takes over this part of the job. "Centerments" appears approximately every six weeks.

The publicity committee's intent is to promote and notify the general public of activities sponsored by Beth Israel Center. Such promotion includes press releases to radio, tv, newspaper, and cable outlets. This includes Planitjewish.com Furthermore, it is the duty of the publicity committee to perform these functions in a time frame which will be of the most benefit to Beth Israel.

Beth Israel Center is primarily a lay-led congregation. We follow the Conservative tradition. The men and women of our congregation lead the services, read the Torah portions and Haftorahs, and deliver d’vrai torah when appropriate. We also encourage the participation of our post bar/bat mitzvah students. Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat services take place at 8:00 P.M. every week from September through June. We schedule a full complement of High Holiday Services which are graced with the addition of a professional Cantor. We also schedule services celebrating the Festivals and periodic Shabbat Saturday morning services

Rules

The Rules Committee is comprised of Stan Glickstein and Ed Hillner, Chairman. The primary function of this committee is to provide assurance that all business of Beth Israel Center is conducted in accordance with the By-Laws of this organization. An auxiliary function of this committee is to review all proposed amendments to the By-Laws and recommend what actions should be taken prior to membership review of these proposals. The chairman of this committee serves as Parliamentarian at all meetings of the Organization and, when called upon, issues an interpretation of any rule of order or of the By-Laws that may be in contention.
